Jewellery Care Guide

Our pieces are fashion and imitation jewellery — gold and silver plated over a base metal. They are not solid gold or certified fine jewellery, and a little care keeps the plating bright for far longer.

The five rules that matter most

  • Last on, first off. Put your jewellery on after perfume, hairspray, lotion and sunscreen have dried.
  • Keep it dry. Remove pieces before bathing, swimming, washing dishes or exercising.
  • Wipe after wearing. A soft dry cloth removes sweat and oils that dull the plating over time.
  • Store separately. Keep pieces in a closed pouch or box, away from sunlight and humidity, so they do not tangle or tarnish.
  • Avoid harsh chemistry. Nail polish remover, bleach and cleaning agents strip plating quickly.

Cleaning

For most pieces a soft, lint-free cloth is enough. For intricate jhumkas and stone-set work, use a very soft dry brush to lift dust from the crevices. Do not soak plated jewellery, and never use toothpaste, baking soda, vinegar or commercial metal polish — these abrade and strip the plating.

A word on colour over time

Plated jewellery naturally softens in tone with wear. How quickly depends on how it is worn and stored, the climate, and individual skin chemistry. This is normal for fashion jewellery and is not a defect. Because these are plated pieces, we do not describe them as pure, hallmarked or certified gold or silver.

Frequently asked

We would not recommend it. Occasional exposure is unlikely to ruin a piece, but regular contact with water, including monsoon humidity and sweat, shortens the life of the plating. Dry the piece with a soft cloth if it does get wet.

Our pieces are plated over a base metal and may contain nickel, so we cannot guarantee they are suitable for very sensitive skin. If you have a known metal allergy, message us on WhatsApp before ordering and we can share what we know about a specific piece.

Removing them is best. Soap residue and prolonged contact with bedding both speed up dulling. If you prefer to keep earrings in overnight, choose lightweight daily-wear studs and wipe them the next morning.

Yes, plating is a surface layer and does eventually thin, most visibly on rings and bangle interiors that rub constantly. Careful storage and last-on-first-off habits meaningfully slow this down.
